0345 and 0333 numbers: the complete guide

By the VoIPer team ยท Updated 3 October 2026

03 numbers, such as 0345 and 0333, are UK national numbers that cost callers the same as calling a normal landline. They count towards inclusive minutes on most mobile and landline plans, so for many callers they are effectively free.

The main types

  • 0345 and 0344: often chosen by businesses moving from old 0845 and 0844 numbers.
  • 0333 and 0330: general national numbers for businesses.
  • 0300: reserved for public sector bodies and charities.

Who pays?

The caller pays their normal landline rate, and the business pays for the number and for routing calls. Unlike 0845 or 0870 numbers, there is no service charge, so you cannot make money from 03 calls, and callers do not feel ripped off.

Why choose an 03 number?

  • one number for the whole UK, not tied to a town
  • fair to callers, so it suits customer service lines
  • cheaper for the business than 0800, because callers pay their normal rate
  • calls can be routed anywhere, including mobiles and multiple sites

03 vs 0800 vs 01/02

Choose 0800 to make calling completely free, 03 for a fair national number, and 01 or 02 to look local. Our guide to choosing a business number compares all three.
